Salvia (This is May Night) |
My sisters were horrified that I would be painting a room in my home purple! But when they saw it, they breathed a sigh of relief. Ah.... not too purple.
Oxalis |
I also love to wear purple, although it hasn't been a popular color for some time. Maybe it will come back in vogue soon.
Wallflower |
In the garden, I have a lot of purple. I'm not the only one that loves it. The bees and butterflies love it, too.
Scabiosa (Pincushion flower) |
It blends well with so many colors of bloom and foliage. I can add as much purple as I want in the garden, and no one is shocked, no matter the shade. It doesn't matter if it's a smokey-grey purple, or a saturated crayon-color purple, it works in the garden.
Loropetalum |
I'm glad Mother Nature loves purple as much as I do. I bet she would have loved my purple bedroom, too.
Asters |
I will be traveling for the next couple of weeks, so I'll also be taking a blog-cation. I'm certain I'll have lots to show and tell when I return!
Safe travels! I have purple in my home too. A deep purple in the front hall and a pale purple in the bedroom hall. No problem with that color.
ReplyDeleteI love purple in the garden too, even though I have a so purple verbena rigida which I need to get rid of, because of its colour! I don't have any purple room but I guess I could stand it, maybe in a shade of wisteria purple. I hate purple clothes on myself. They remind me of priests and people on (italian at least) telly think it's bad luck to dress in purple for a TV show.
ReplyDeleteThat oxalis is beautiful.
I too love purple, in its different hues and shades in the garden. Have fun in your travels and looking forward to your updates!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of purple too. I buy clothes in purple and probably close to half the flowers in my garden are purple or a bluish purple.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. Great color in the garden, although not many other places in my life. Have fun on your trip.

You know this poem? ... (PS no idea how old you are, moving on)

As long as you love it who cares if it's in fashion. I adore purple in the garden and I'm looking closely at your flower selection to see what I can add to my bed. Enjoy your vacation.
ReplyDeleteOh, my. Don't get me started on the purples I love in the garden. I choose not to wear purple because of that old-person-wearing-purple-and-a-red-hat-that-doesn't-go thing. I was hoping to see a purple rose here. My fav blooming now is Reine des Violettes, more for the peppery rose fragrance than the color.
ReplyDeleteI so agree, Holley, and I have to be careful that I include other colours in the garden sometimes!
ReplyDeleteAside from the asters, I have every single one of these plants, identical. I'm thinking I might like purple a lot more than I thought...
ReplyDeletePurple is my favorite color. It goes with almost everything ... it's the new neutral. :-) I'm sure your purple room was lovely. Enjoyed your post. :-)
ReplyDeleteI just bought a purple blouse the other day, so it maybe it's coming back into fashion! Purple is my second favorite color behind blue - and my favorite blues are those with nuances of purple. Definitely one of the best colors for the garden - it makes all the other colors look even better.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation!
I like purple plants. I am rooting a cutting from a ruellia (Mexican petunia). I love the purple flowers that bloom in September. Enjoy your trip. I will miss your blog!
ReplyDeleteI share your love for purple inside and out
ReplyDeleteI wish someone had told me that purple is out of vogue ...
ReplyDeleteI really like your oxalis with the purple-centred leaves.
I like purple plants
ReplyDeleteBut I would never again wear purple pants
Yes to Purple in the yard
But against my face it looks so hard
Others can wear it so well
But one me it looks like &&^%%
Hope your travels bring you to many beautiful places!!!
I think that I don't have enough purple in the garden. It is a great color and easily mixes in with other colors. Have a great vacation! Can't wait to see the pictures of all the beautiful places you visit.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love the color purple...enjoy your time away...relax and I look forward to your posts when you return
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! You have some beautiful purple colors in your garden :-)
ReplyDeleteIs purple out of vogue? Really?? I bought a lovely, smokey purple jumper last week, fashionably long and with the right kind of hem.... I am actually wearing it right now, purple is definitely in vogue over here in London, in gardens and wardrobes alike :-) Have a nice trip!
ReplyDeleteLove purple in the garden. I planted our Reine de Violettes with Golden Celebration and oh what a beautiful combo that makes!
ReplyDeleteIt's a favourite colour of mine too and I've got a rose that would probably fit with your purple them despite it having the name ' Rhapsody in Blue'as it's more a deep purple than blue in my garden. Have a good trip.
ReplyDeleteI like purple in the garden, not so sure about the bedroom, think I'll have to pass on that one. Enjoy your blog-cation, oh and your travels.
ReplyDeleteHappy Travelling Holley!
ReplyDeletePS: Love your "purples" :)
Pretty purple flowers!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays!
Yes Holley, purple is great in the garden, as for the home! Well it takes me back to 1969 when we were very young, we painted a feature wall in our lounge deep purple with a huge psychedelic poster on it with the word PEACE. Looking back, it was dreadful.
ReplyDeleteEnjoys your hols 'Holley xxx
ReplyDeleteWhen did purple go out of vogue??? No one ever tells me anything! My favorite color combination is auburgine and sage green. I had purple shutters on my house (everyone thought I was nuts, but they never had trouble figuring out which house was mine). When I met my husband and was visiting his home for the first time, (55 miles away), he told me to loom for the tan house with the purple trim and door..... SAME colors as mine. Shall we be the purple sisters (we'd have to be triplets... my friend Teresa not only wears purple, she wears purple roses... you'd LOVE her!)
ReplyDeleteHolley, your post made me think of this article on how colors come into fashion: http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/design/2012/04/pantone_color_forecasts_are_they_accurate_.html. It makes me glad that in gardens colors have a longer shelf-life. Have a great vacation!
ReplyDeleteAs a child I had a 'lilac and shell pink' bedroom. Half the walls the pink, the rest were purple, but a soft lilac purple, and I loved it! I don't have any purple walls now, but the garden definitely is full of it, and I agree, the bees and butterflies do gravitate toward it. It's such a calming color in the garden, and there is such a wide variety of plants that fall into that palette too, lavender, and asters, being some of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteThe color purple -- one of my favorite books, one of my favorite movies, and a favorite color in the garden. There's a quote that goes something like this: "It think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it."
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers. I went to Elmira College, and their colors are purple and gold. Everything is purple: doors, paper clips, hand soap, rock salt, anything that can be painted is purple. I like it more now than I did then. Fortunately I think Nature's purples are much more beautiful and attractive.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color is green, but my second is purple...all shades and hues. I love all the purple in your garden. This year I am adding some more interesting foliage to contrast with all of the green. The purples really seem to stand out.
ReplyDeleteI wish you safe travels Holley. Have a great time on your vacation.
ReplyDeleteLovely, colourful photos! I love the Oxalis; it's very striking! Enjoy your travels!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! In our last house I painted the dining room ceiling that nice soft bluish purple. I loved it probably like you loved your bedroom. I think others thought it was a bit odd, but that didn't matter. Nature does love it, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I wouldn't be able to decide on one color. I love to see all things in bull bloom with full, lush greenery all around.
ReplyDeleteI love the color purple and purple flowers are my favorite especially with orange. Enjoy your vacation.
ReplyDeleteI have been tempted by the pincushion flower at nurseries this spring. Oh and fashion, smashion, wear purple if you love it!
