Carnival Glass |
You may be surprised when I tell you this is a miniature rose. I bought it on a whim, thinking a miniature rose would look sweet planted in the front of this bed. I have been extremely happy with that impulse decision.
Not only is Carnival Glass a prolific bloomer, but it is also disease resistant and hardy in zones 5 though 10. I have mine in the ground, where I keep it to around 2 tall and wide. It has a slight fragrance, but you have to bend down so low to smell it, I don't think that's important. Blooms are up to 2 inches wide. They look quite sweet in a bouquet.

It would be stunning in a pot, too.

I completely understand people that get addicted to miniature roses. They're sweet little shrubs with an abundance of tiny blooms. After getting Carnival Glass, I have purchased several other varieties of miniature roses. I have yet to be disappointed.
Yes, I know - it just might be the start of an addiction!
Miniature roses are very beautiful and a nice fit for a small garden! I love these photos. I’m very fond of Rise N Shine, which is my only miniature. I do think I would love to add a few more.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a Rise N Shine! I'll have to check it out. I find these little miniature roses are perfect for stuffing in so many places in the garden.
DeleteI have been thinking of putting something between the boxwoods in the front garden, and this sounds like a perfect rose to add for color. And I love that color. The name is so nice as well...Carnival Glass...lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou have just given me a wonderful idea! I've often thought about mixing boxwoods with roses, but most roses get too large, and I never thought about a miniature rose - it's the perfect size! Why didn't I think of that!!!
DeleteThat is a lovely little specimen. I've never been successful keeping miniatures alive in a pot or planted.
ReplyDeleteThings are greening up here. I've had the first tiny iris bloom. I've been busy moving plants around in preparation for a building project that I hope we can choose a contractor for very soon.
How exciting to have the irises start blooming! And a building project sounds like fun - I hope it goes well.
DeleteThere's a whole society here for miniature roses...my mom just loves these...yours are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThey really are addicting! And they're so versatile, too! They fit in almost anywhere.
DeleteI've never had a miniature rose but, I'll keep Carnival Glass in mind. It's a little beauty. Love the name too! :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you ever get started on miniature roses, don't say I didn't warn you about their addicting quality! :)
DeleteThat's a gorgeous rose! I love how prolific it is. And it's such a pretty color, too!
ReplyDeleteIt is reliably one of my best bloomers. Amazing that I picked up such a goodie on a whim!
DeleteWhat a lovely little rose. And yours is so healthy. I'm going to enjoy your roses for the next six months until mine start blooming again.
ReplyDeleteAnd then I'll enjoy yours when mine go dormant! :)
DeleteThis is the color of my daughter's wedding this June. It is my last wedding...how I wish my backyard could be filled with these sweet little roses..sigh
ReplyDeletePeach is my very favorite color. I have a lot of peachy/apricot colored roses. Maybe you could buy two or three - they would make a beautiful impact! :) Have I enabled you enough? ;)
DeleteThey are so lovely :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed looking at it!
DeleteMy husband occassionally brings me a miniature rose bush - I think he goes for the cleverest pot or container and then choses the color of the rose. No, really, he's done pretty well for a man who refuses to garden (he grew up on a farm). I have a collection of several different colors scattered around the 'regular' roses. I love them. Yours are thriving. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe miniatures really are wonderful to have, aren't they? Scattered around the regular roses sound just perfect to me. They are just the perfect size to compliment the other roses - especially under the roses that might get a little leggy.
DeleteSmall but mighty, Holley... Your miniature roses are fabulous... In fact, all of your flowers are fabulous... Love the header too.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
We may grow different types of roses, but we still love them all, don't we, Betsy? Roses are roses, no matter the size or shape - they are all beautiful!
DeleteLead me not into temptation!!!
ReplyDelete-I can find my way there on my own, as exemplified by the three roses that were delivered yesterday and the ten roses that are still under way... None of them miniatures, though I could easily see myself fitting a few miniatures into the courtyard in a pot or two.
haha! I read about your three roses. They should be beautiful ones. But I definitely think you surely must need a miniature rose - or two! ;)
DeleteIt might be small but it is a very pretty rose! The mini's do seem to bloom their little hearts out, don't they? I have only two miniatures and have had them so long, I don't remember their names. I have often thought about trying to root a cutting so I would have three, but I've never propagated a mini before.
ReplyDeleteThey do bloom their hearts out! My other minis are just starting to bloom now - and one is new, so I've never seen it's bloom! It's so exciting! You should try to take a cutting. Nothing lost in trying!
DeleteI was impressed at the miniature roses at our city's rose garden...I had no idea! Looks like you have that size covered, too.
ReplyDeleteRoses are so versatile - from miniatures to climbers and everything in between, there's a rose for everyone and every garden! At least, that's how I feel about it! ;)
DeleteVery pretty. May be small but it sure makes up for it in the lovely blooms.
ReplyDeleteCher Sunray Gardens
The blooms are quite sweet. So many little ruffled petals!
DeleteVery pretty and looks wonderful in your garden.
ReplyDeleteFlowerLady
Thanks, FlowerLady. I've really enjoyed this one.
DeleteLove, Love, Love this rose.
ReplyDeleteIt does have a good reputation. And I can see why!
DeletePerhaps I should give the miniatures a go.
ReplyDeleteWhy not? :)
DeleteThat is a sweet little rose. I love the blend of colors.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color. And it has just a touch of gold in the middle.
DeleteWhat a beautiful rose. I love the color and the shape of the flower.
ReplyDeleteSo many petals in such a tiny little bloom! The more it opens up, the more petals it has, it seems.
DeleteWhat a cute little rose! Is it a polyantha type? I love apricot colored roses.
ReplyDeleteI love apricot colored roses, too. Polyanthas are very small, but no, this is classified as a miniature.
DeleteWhat a pretty little rose! I have just one miniature rose, but would love to have more. One might think that a small rose like a miniature might be less hardy, but my little orange one comes back faithfully every year.
ReplyDeleteI think they can be quite hardy, which really is surprising as sweet and dainty as they are. Since I got this one, I seem to always include a miniature rose in every new bed!
DeleteWhat a lovely little rose. This may be my next move since I am running out of room and they could be border plants for the Rose Garden and elsewhere. It is good to know about the ones that are hardy and have grown well for other gardeners. Thanks for sharing your beautiful miniature.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think you'd love them if you found some miniatures for your garden. Good luck on deciding - there are a lot of sweet ones!
DeleteBeautiful! I'll have to consider adding a miniature rose. I remember I had one in Maine! So there must be some very hardy varieties out there. I hesitate to plant Z5 here even with the new zone map, otherwise Carnival would be choice.
ReplyDeleteI would hate to put a rose (or any perennial) out that I didn't think would live through the winter, either. Maybe you can find a miniature rose that would be hardy in your area.
DeleteI've never had one though admired them in the garden centres when in flower.
ReplyDeleteYou may have to pick one up! But trust me, they are amazingly addictive!
DeleteI've not grown miniature roses for years. Might be time to think about growing one again, or two or three......
ReplyDeletehaha - Yes, I can tell you've grown miniatures before. Like Lay's potato chips, you can't stop at just one! :)
DeleteA really pretty rose colour. Very tempting to buy many of these!
ReplyDeleteIt is tempting to get a lot of miniatures - they fit in so many places!
Deletei started with minis in Arizona ,planted them around the base of rose trees.18" and 24" now here in ky i have about 150 in pots in whiskey barrels and in gardens, still have the mini trees in the barrels nice 2 level color.very adictive
DeleteHow beautiful your garden must be with all those miniature roses! I bet it is like a wonderland in the summertime. I agree that they are quite addictive!
