Some Things Just Work Out!

Sometimes I plant things in the garden with no idea if they will work out or not.  And sometimes they do!  One of the best plants I've put in the garden lately is 'Bright Lights'.

'Bright Lights' is a striped pink and yellow miniature rose, and it only grows to around 2 to 3 ft. tall.  Although different websites state different zones, it's worth trying in zones 5 to 11.  I like using miniature roses in my landscaping.

I planted 'Bright Lights' in a planter located in the middle of a bed of cheerful yellow 'Julia Child' roses.

Their blooms compliment each other perfectly.  Isn't it wonderful when things work out?

You see, this planter had been a source of frustration for quite some time.  I had planted annuals in it for several years.  Then I just left it bare.  The cats used it as a bed.  I was not satisfied.  I wanted something there.  A plant, not a cat.  Something permanent.  Something pretty.  Something cheerful.

I bought 'Bright Lights' on a whim.  But not only does it pair perfectly with 'Julia Child', it also compliments 'James Galway' (a light pink bloomer) and the 'Appleblossom' flower carpet roses that are just around the corner.

This planter is now a focal point that I love to see!

This is my 100th post!  I'm linking this to Cottage Flora Thursdays.

  3. They look beautiful together. Definitely a good choice to go there and I bet those cats don't care for the thorns either.

  5. Ginny - thanks! I am very pleased with 'Bright Lights'.

Lona - I love the miniature roses - they are just so cute! The yellow roses, Julia Childs, are a good rose to try, too!

Cher - haha - I thought that maybe the rose thorns would keep them from laying on it, like they did the other plants! So far, it seems to have done the trick!

Masha - I am quite pleased with this combination. I didn't realize until they bloomed that they would tie in with the other roses in this area. A nice surprise!

  9. Congrats on 100! The Roses and your arrangements are lovely as always. I'm partial to the slightly different shades, so I really like the way the yellow Roses bring out the warm tones in Bright Lights!

  11. GardeningBlog - The planter was a gift, so I love it, of course! It's very heavy and has a nice deep area for plantings.

Cherry - I love it when those little unplanned things turn out just like they were meant to be!

Andrea - I love striped roses, but this one is so small, you really have to look carefully. Very sweet with the yellow and pink combined.

PlantPostings - I don't know if all yellows go together, but these two look great together. I'm so glad they don't clash!

Olga - Although they do look delicate, they've put up with a lot of wind lately, and are obviously not so delicate at all! Thanks for commenting.
